| As
we all know, the entire north Karnataka and parts of
coastal and Malnad regions are in the grip of one of
the worst natural disasters the State has witnessed
in a long time.
The floods that have followed
the torrential rains have brought unprecedented misery
to lakhs of people.
It has been in the form of death
of many of their loved ones, destruction of houses,
properties, crops and loss of most of their belongings.
The State has also suffered huge
losses with the washing away of roads, bridges, railway
tracks and other public properties. Rescue, relief and
rehabilitation operations for the affected people are
a gigantic task and it will take weeks, if not months.
In this hour of human tragedy, we can do our bit to
support the hapless people as the governments efforts
alone are not adequate.
As flood relief in the Karnataka
continues, I request all BOD members and Kannada koota
presidents to co-ordinate and work with people in your
area to raise emergency Flood Recovery fund for those
who are affected by the floods in our home state of
Karnataka.
